ILEP Co-ordination
Co-ordination is the cornerstone of the Federation. It allows the Members to engage in a free and flexible exchange of workloads and responsibilities and still present a united front in the worldwide campaign against leprosy. Co-ordination within the Federation operates at several levels:
Financial Co-ordination

ILEP Members come together from a realisation that through co-ordination their resources can be better used, overlap can be avoided, and support can be concentrated where it is most needed.
The co-ordination system allows Members, when required, to join forces to support major initiatives in the field of scientific research, teaching materials or training and to respond to the needs of national programmes, especially in priority countries.
The result is an exceptional example of international co-operation by autonomous agencies in the distribution of funds.
Operational Co-ordination
For most endemic countries (and states in large countries), one ILEP Member is appointed to ensure co-ordination, guarantee the flow of information and initiate co-operation between all partners, especially with the government. The ILEP Co-ordinator, in turn, appoints a representative who takes charge of co-ordination at local level and who reports to that Member.
The role of the ILEP Co-ordinator and his/her representative is:
- to co-ordinate the involvement of ILEP Members in activities at national level;
- to represent the interests of ILEP Members with other partners including Government;
- to propose an annual action plan in consultation with all partners;
- to identify issues of common interest and concern for ILEP support;
- to establish and maintain a channel of communication with partners for speedy dissemination of information and decision making;
- to organise regular meetings of the Members to discuss issues of common concern;
- to promote and ensure the distribution of ILEP teaching materials and technical advice to projects within the country.
Information sharing
Standardised forms, known as ILEP Questionnaires, have been prepared to collect data on all activities supported by Members. ILEP Questionnaires have promoted the collection of essential data and helped projects to focus on essential indicators, as recommended by the ILEP Technical Commission. Yearly compilations are prepared and distributed to Members and partners, thus allowing transparency in grant giving, the identification of global trends and gaps in support.
ILEP Members share expertise in areas such as medical, scientific and social issues and the production and distribution of teaching and learning materials. The co-ordination system allows Members to adopt common standards and policies as recommended by the ILEP Technical Commission and action groups.
Partnership
Through the ILEP Co-ordination system ILEP collaborates on an ad hoc basis with international partners such as the International Leprosy Association, the International Association for Integration, Dignity and Economic Advancement (IDEA) and the World Health Organisation.
