Although leprosy’s northern borders at one time stretched up into Canada, today the most northerly autochthonous cases appear to be in the southern United States in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Georgia. Into Central America, relatively small numbers of new leprosy cases continue to be reported from Mexico and some of the smaller countries in and around the Caribbean basin.

The Enhanced Global Strategy for Further Reducing the Disease Burden due to Leprosy for the five years 2011-2015 and its accompanying set of Operational Guidelines have been published. They can be downloaded from the ILEP website.
