Dr R Ganapati, Director Emeritus of the Bombay Leprosy Project in Mumbai, died in hospital on Sunday 13th November 2012. His enthusiasm for promoting leprosy work never waned and his loss is deeply felt by all who knew him and especially by all those persons with leprosy for whom he cared so deeply and for whom he worked so tirelessly.

On 30th January 2012, at an event at the Royal College of Physicians in London, the UK, US and UAE governments, 13 pharmaceutical companies, the World Bank, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other global health organisations announced a new, co-ordinated effort to accelerate progress towards eliminating or controlling ten Neglected Tropical Diseases by the end of 2020.

On 30th January 2012 the World Health Organization released a roadmap outlining its goals and objectives to enhance the control, prevention, elimination and eradication of neglected tropical diseases.

Novartis and the Novartis Foundation for Sustainable Development announced on Monday 30th January 2012 that it will continue to provide free treatment with multi-drug therapy to patients with leprosy worldwide up until the end of 2020.
