DFID Funding Project to Challenge Discrimination and Discriminatory Legislation against Leprosy Affected

Posted on 2 September 2010 by ILEP

The Leprosy Mission has been granted funding that will enable persons affected by leprosy themselves, in two of the States most affected by leprosy in India, to defend their human rights.

Persons affected by leprosy in Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh will be given opportunities to take the lead in advocating for their entitlements and rights at local, state and national level. They will be able to work alongside senior advocates, the Human Rights Council of India and the media to lobby for changes to legislation and Government policy.

In the press release issued by The Leprosy Mission, England, Wales the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, it is noted that this project “… will also enable parliamentarians, employers and religious and community leaders to address discrimination and inequality.”
