Some persons with impairments due to leprosy in Tamil Nadu are being denied the disability pension by the State Government, which is currently authorising payment of such pensions only to those who meet the eligibility criteria of an old law, although there is a more recent act whose eligibility criteria encompasses more persons.

August 2011: Dr Mario Raviglione, Director of the Stop TB Department is calling for an end to using serological tests to diagnose tuberculosis, because it is now considered bad practice, as test results are imprecise, inconsistent and are putting patients’ lives in danger and impeding TB control efforts.

In mid-June 2011 the Vatican approved a second miracle by Blessed Marianne Cope, which has to be examined by theologians and a group of cardinals before being presented to the Pope for approval. She could then be declared a saint.
