Dr R Ganapati, Director Emeritus of the Bombay Leprosy Project in Mumbai, died in hospital on Sunday 13th November 2012. His enthusiasm for promoting leprosy work never waned and his loss is deeply felt by all who knew him and especially by all those persons with leprosy for whom he cared so deeply and for whom he worked so tirelessly.

Novartis and the Novartis Foundation for Sustainable Development announced on Monday 30th January 2012 that it will continue to provide free treatment with multi-drug therapy to patients with leprosy worldwide up until the end of 2020.

When Raoul Follereau designated the last Sunday in January as World Leprosy Day, his two main messages were that leprosy is curable and that persons affected by leprosy are entitled to rights like all other persons. In advance of this year’s World Leprosy Day, the ILEP President stresses the millions of persons ILEP Members have helped cure over the last 45 years and the key role ILEP Members and their partners can play in upholding their rights.

The First World Congress on Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) will be held in Agra, India, Monday 26th – Wednesday 28th November 2012. CBR practitioners, representatives from disabled people’s organisations, policy makers, rehabilitation experts, specialists, local and international non-governmental organisations, government officials and other stakeholders will have the opportunity to learn and share validated practices from all over the world.
