Examples of Members’ Anti-Leprosy Work
American Leprosy Missions
American Leprosy Missions supports the National Leprosy Control Programme in all its activities. It also assists a former colony, now the village of Thayagone, where opportunities have been created for life in the community, earning a living and otherwise generally improving the lives of persons affected by leprosy.
Associazione Italiana Amici di Raoul Follereau
The Associazione Italiana Amici di Raoul Follereau provides community-based rehabilitation to persons affected by leprosy in Loilem and helps improve the lives of people living at the St Theresa leprosy colony by ensuring that children of people affected by leprosy can go to school and providing treatment and social and economic rehabilitation for persons affected by leprosy.
Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation
In 2008 the Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation began the Myitta Arr Marn (the Power of Hope) project to survey the leprosy colonies remaining in Myanmar. At the same time they are helping to provide training, health education and supporting community work such as the formation of self-help groups, community-based rehabilitation and socio-economic rehabilitation activities.
