Leprosy still exists in many of the small island states scattered across the Pacific and some islands such as Makogai in Fiji were in the recent past used as isolation colonies for patients sent there from throughout the region.  Hawaii and its isolated leprosy community in Molokai were made famous through the work of Father Damien but, as in many European countries, the disease in Hawaii was widely in decline well before the introduction of dapsone and MDT.
