A comparative genomic study conducted by Professor Stewart Cole for the Institut Pasteur, the Fondation Raoul Follereau, LEPRA Health in Action and other Institutes, showed conclusively that the strain of Hansen’s disease that appeared in Brazil was the same as that of cases in West Africa.
