In order to facilitate the co-ordination of activities ILEP Members have agreed to register their projects with ILEP using a common numbering system.

The ILEP Secretariat maintains a list of the projects supported by ILEP Members and the areas of special responsibility assumed by individual Members.

Structure of ILEP Number for Field Projects

This concerns all projects which can be situated geographically in a given zone and whose objectives directly relate to anti-leprosy work within that zone. The ILEP number is determined by three parameters:

  • geography
  • nature of activities
  • coverage of activities

1st Digit

Indicates the continent as follows:

1. Africa, 2. Amercia Nth/Ctl, 3. South America, 4. Asia, 5. Europe, 6. Oceania

2nd/3rd Digits

In combination with the continent indicates the country:

1.22 Ethiopia                        4.25 India

4th/5th Digits (00 - 89 Local Projects)

In combination with digits 1/2-3, indicate the province where the project is located. 00 is used when there is no division by province within the ILEP system for the country concerned.

                         1.22.00.01             ALERT                   (no divisions into provinces)

                        4.25.07.11             Karigiri                   (division into provinces)

4th/5th Digits (90 National coverage)

In combination with positions 1/2-3 the digits 90 in 4th and 5th position are used to indicate a programme with a national coverage.

1.52.90.01             Mali PN                  (programme covering the country)

1.57.90.09             Drugs Supply       (in Nigeria)

4.12.90.90             China NP              (indirect support to China at national level)

4th/5th Digits (91-93-94-95-97-98-99)

In combination with positions 1/2-3

91                           are used for management projects / Local representatives of Members

93                           used for Buruli Ulcer projects with no leprosy component

94                           are used for health education programmes when not part of control activities

95                           are used for training when not part of control activities

97                           are used for support to local associations

98                           Non-leprosy activities

99                           miscellaneous activities

Indicate the serial number of the project.
