Priorities
According to its Constitution, DAHW's task is:
- To initiate and support leprosy and tuberculosis control activities
- To foster medical and social rehabilitation
- To support community-based rehabilitation programmes
- To support research in leprosy and tuberculosis
- To support training activities in leprosy and tuberculosis
- To promote health education and information
- And to support public awareness campaigns
DAHW is networking with national and international bodies that are involved in political, medical, and social cooperation with developing countries.
History
DAHW was founded in 1957 as an association supporting the work of a doctor caring for leprosy patients in Ethiopia. DAHW employs around 51 full- and part-time workers in the central headquarters in Würzburg and Münster. It has 14 overseas offices run by representatives. DAHW was a founding Member of ILEP.
