At its 120th Session in January 2007, the World Health Organization's Executive Board decided to admit The International Federation of Anti-Leprosy Associations into official relations with the WHO. Dr Vijaykumar Pannikar, Medical Director, Team Leader, Global Leprosy Programme, has been appointed as the designated WHO Technical Officer for relations with ILEP.

The Public Library of Science, PLoS, has recently announced the creation of Neglected Tropical Diseases. This is an access journal. It is the first to be devoted to the world's most neglected diseases, including leprosy. Anyone with access to a computer and the Internet will be able to freely read, distribute and translate its contents.
