- Leprosy is not considered an eradicable disease.

- Efforts should be taken to improve the quality of routine case detection data.

- Social action is required at all levels to reduce stigma.

- There should be awareness of the possibility of HIV/leprosy co-infection.

These are some of the findings of the Technical Advisory Group members who met in Cairo 6th – 7th March 2008.

On 18th June 2008, the 8th United Nations Human Rights Council unanimously approved a resolution tabled by Japan on the elimination of discrimination against persons affected by leprosy.
