ILEP member American Leprosy Missions welcomed new President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Simmons on 1st December 2010.

Simmons arrives at American Leprosy Missions with more than twenty years of management experience. Most recently he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Berean Christian Stores, a nationwide retail chain. Simmons was born in Tennessee, but spent his teenage years in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (then Zaire), where his parents were missionaries. Simmons graduated with honours from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Political Science. He has served on the board of several non-profit organisations including Underground Zone Ministries and the Gospel Music Association. Simmons also served on the City of Mason Ohio Planning Commission. Simmons and his wife, Cindi, have four children.

"It is a privilege to be called to lead American Leprosy Missions,” says Simmons. “I am convinced that during the years ahead we can create a greater awareness of leprosy and its continued impact on millions of people. American Leprosy Missions has an incredible history of standing with those who have suffered from leprosy and Buruli ulcer, and fighting the stigma that accompanies these terrible diseases. I am honoured to continue that tradition. I look forward to working with our partners to expand American Leprosy Missions’ global impact.”
