Call for Nominations for International Gandhi Award 2011

Nominations for the 2011 International Gandhi Award are being sought by the Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation.

To commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s service to persons affected by leprosy and his scientific approach to the disease, in 1986 the Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation instituted the International Gandhi Award for presentation to an individual(s) or institutions making outstanding contributions to the leprosy field that result in improvement in the lives of people affected by leprosy.

Criteria for eligibility:

• The leprosy worker/leprosy institution must have worked to significantly improve the lives of people affected by leprosy for at least ten years
• This Award is open to medical, paramedical or non-medical and social workers in the field

Requirements:

The nominating agencies must provide:

• full bio-data of the nominee with detailed description of the anti-leprosy work done by the nominated person or institution;
• documentary evidence/publications of the significant contribution the nominee has made to leprosy work.

Deadline for nominations:

• Friday, 30th September 2011

Previous awardees include:

Dr Vijaykumar Pannikar of India; Dr Dharmedndra of India; Dr Turkan Saylan of Turkey; Dr Ma Hai De of China; Dr M F Lechat of Belgium; Cardinal Paul Leger of Canada; Ms Jean Watson of the UK; and ALERT of Ethiopia.
