NEJM Publishes Research Findings about Probable Zoonotic Leprosy

On 28th April 2011 the New England Journal of Medicine published an article revealing that wild armadillos and some persons with leprosy in the southern United States have been found to be infected with the same strain of Mycobacterium leprae.
This research, based on advanced DNA analysis, was conducted by the Global Health Institute at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland and and the National Hansen’s Disease Programs, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA.
