Mr René Stäheli, Chief Executive of FAIRMED, has begun his second three-year term as President of the ILEP Federation following re-election by trustees at their most recent meeting.

In accepting his re-appointment, Mr Stäheli, thanked everyone for their vote and confidence in him. He expressed the view that it is of greater value than ever to be a member of this unique Federation as leprosy issues decline among the world’s priorities and the trend for diversification among ILEP Members continues. His stated aim is to ensure that membership of ILEP is of ever more benefit to its Members as they integrate their leprosy work into broader approaches. Mr Stäheli feels very strongly that there is potential to exploit further sharing of experience and expertise among Members so they can continue to learn from each other. He vows to maintain and strengthen the relationships between Board members, the ILEP Secretariat, the Federation and its partners.

Mr Stäheli’s background is as an agricultural engineer having qualified as an engineer in agricultural economics at Bern University of Applied Science. More recently he was awarded an Executive Masters in Business Administration in the management of not-for-profit organisations from the University of Fribourg. He is particularly interested in organisational structures, fundraising, project management and benchmarking, and also the problems faced by developing countries. He is someone who sincerely wishes to help make a difference in the world.
