Chief Program Officer Chosen by American Leprosy Missions

Mr Jim Oehrig has stepped into the position of Chief Program Officer for American Leprosy Missions. Having lived outside the United States for two decades, Mr Oehrig had widespread ministry and programme experience in more than 35 underdeveloped countries.

He graduated from Houghton College in 1983 with a BA in History and Political Science and received his MA in Latin American Studies from the University of Connecticut in 1986. Mr Oehrig also undertook postgraduate work at the Centre for Development Studies at the University of Wales in the UK. He has been the Director for Program Development for ALM since 2005.
In his new role, Mr Oehrig will manage the selection, development, monitoring and evaluation of projects which meet ALM partnership criteria. Mr Oehrig will recommend policy to the President and the ALM Board of Directors, and he will facilitate and foster a growing co-operative alliance with The Leprosy Mission International, ALM’s sister organisation in London, UK.
Working directly with faith-based partner organisations, Mr Oehrig will try to assure sustainability of projects and increase their impact. In addition, Mr Oehrig will participate in international forums to enhance ALM’s position as one of the world’s primary leaders in the global campaign to eradicate leprosy, reduce stigma and provide holistic treatment to people affected with leprosy and Buruli ulcer.
