Drug Resistance in Leprosy: Reports from Selected Endemic Countries

Although the problem of resistance to leprosy drugs may not be extensive now, a sentinel surveillance network established by the WHO Global Leprosy Programme, in close collaboration with national leprosy control programmes and partners, will closely monitor its emergence. Practical and quick DNA sequencing methods will facilitate this process. The findings will be used to develop effective measures to combat drug resistance in leprosy in the future.
