World Report on Disability to be Launched 9th June 2011
Posted on 27 May 2011 by
The World Report on Disability will be launched at the United Nations Building in New York on 9th June by the WHO Director-General and a senior official from the World Bank.
This important Report reviews evidence about the global situation of persons with impairments and offers directions for policy and practice that address exclusion in support of the recommendations outlined in the UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on how to enable millions of persons with disabilities to participate in education, employment and wider society.
Global disability figures have not been estimated by the World Health Organization for over thirty years. The Report stresses the need for better and more accurate data on disability and the need for further research.
As part of the campaign to promote the World Report on Disability the World Health Organization commissioned a series of films featuring women with disabilities, each of which answer the question “What’s disability to me?”. See: WHO YouTube
