The 2011 Wellesley Bailey Award winners attended a presentation dinner at the International Assembly of ILEP Member The Leprosy Mission International in Chiang Mai, Thailand, at the end of May 2011. David Parry, Chair of The Leprosy Mission International told the guests that Wellesley Bailey Awards are given to people who have faced significant challenges in their lives from the consequences of leprosy, and have made significant contributions to their community and society.

Dignity Regained: Cambodia, is a collection of personal narratives of persons affected by leprosy that has been published this year in both Khmer and English.

These Guidelines recognise the major role persons affected by leprosy have to play in leprosy services especially in the areas of advocacy, awareness and rehabilitation as a means to not only empower persons affected by leprosy, but also to change the attitudes and behaviours of others towards those who are affected by leprosy.

Almost four weeks’ since the earthquake and tsunami struck north eastern Japan, the Sumanahalli Leprosy Rehabilitation Centre in Bangalore, Karnataka, has started an official campaign to raise funds for those affected by these two natural disasters that killed thousands and wiped out hundreds of towns and villages.
