The Enhanced Global Strategy for Further Reducing the Disease Burden Due to Leprosy 2011 – 2015 and its accompanying Operational Guidelines will assist leprosy-endemic countries in developing their own country-specific strategies and plans of action for the next five years to sustain and provide quality services to individuals and communities that need them.

A two-day workshop was held 12th – 13th December 2010 in Yashada, Pune, India, on the theme of An Inclusive Society, Leprosy and Human Rights. It was, organised by the International Leprosy Union in collaboration with the National Forum of India and ILEP Member, the Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation.

In November 2010 the Indian Council for Medical Research, the research wing of the Indian Ministry of Health, entered its centenary year. Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Minister of Health, has urged researchers not to treat research only as an academic exercise.

A number of people representing ILEP Members and also IDEA were among the participants at the recent 4th CBR Africa Conference which was held in Abuja, Nigeria from 26th – 29th October 2010. The theme of the conference was “Linking CBR with Disability and Rehabilitation”.

In its Resolution of 3rd November 2010, the United Nations General Assembly noted with appreciation both the report of the Secretary-General “Keeping the promise: realising the Millennium Development Goals for persons with disabilities towards 2015 and beyond” and its recommendations.
