The 2010 International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December has as its theme, “Keeping the promise: Mainstreaming disability in the Millennium Development Goals towards 2015 and beyond”. One week later, the 10th December marks International Human Rights Day.

Health Systems Financing: The Path to Universal Coverage is the sub-title to this year’s World Health Report just published by the World Health Organization. This report indicates ways in which countries can alter their financing systems so that they can increase health coverage.

The European Union is about to become a party to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, whose 32nd Article requires States Parties to ensure that international co-operation, including international development programmes, are inclusive of and accessible to persons with disabilities.

27th October 2010: The ILEP Secretariat has heard from colleagues participating in the 4th Community-Based Rehabilitation Africa Network Conference that the new CBR Guidelines have been launched in Nigeria that will empower persons with impairments by supporting their inclusion in all services.

The Global Leprosy Programme of the World Health Organization is currently working on a set of guidelines that will provide guidance on strengthening the participation of persons affected by leprosy in leprosy services. These Guidelines are to be published in early 2011. José Ramirez shares his thoughts on this important development.
