On 27th October 2010 WHO, ILO, UNESCO and the International Disability and Development Consortium launched Guidelines on Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) at the Fourth CBR African Network Conference held in Abuja, Nigeria. Conference participants made nine recommendations on making practical use of these new CBR Guidelines in Africa.

On Wednesday 15th December 2010, the Brazilian Ministry of Health (MoH) and the pharmaceutical laboratory Novartis signed an agreement to transfer the technology for national production of the active agent in clofazimine, one of the medications used in the treatment of leprosy (known as Hansen’s disease in Brazil).

A number of people representing ILEP Members and also IDEA were among the participants at the recent 4th CBR Africa Conference which was held in Abuja, Nigeria from 26th – 29th October 2010. The theme of the conference was “Linking CBR with Disability and Rehabilitation”.

27th October 2010: The ILEP Secretariat has heard from colleagues participating in the 4th Community-Based Rehabilitation Africa Network Conference that the new CBR Guidelines have been launched in Nigeria that will empower persons with impairments by supporting their inclusion in all services.

The Stigma Research Workshop, held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 11th – 14th October 2010, brought together scientists and professionals from different public health fields to share knowledge, experiences and research findings regarding stigma and public health.
