15 world business leaders signed a message proclaiming their support for the principle of social integration and economic empowerment of people affected by leprosy in Mumbai on 25th January 2010 in the lead-up to World Leprosy Day on 31st January 2010.

As of today, 1st February 2010, Mr Jim Oehrig is Acting Chief Executive Officer of American Leprosy Missions, following the departure at the end of January 2010 of

Mr Chris Doyle after fifteen years’ service.

World Leprosy Day was created in 1954 by Raoul Follereau “so that people affected by leprosy could be cared for like all others who are ill and so that that those in good health could be cured of their absurd and often criminal fear of this disease and those who are affected by it”.
