Scientists in Singapore and China have discovered seven genes associated with increased susceptibility to leprosy.

DNA taken from the shrouded remains of a man discovered in a tomb next to the Old City of Jerusalem shows him to be the first human proven to have had leprosy, according to Hebrew University researchers and North American and British collaborators.

Dr Sunil Anand has taken over as Director of The Leprosy Mission (TLM) India from
Dr Jeyakumar Daniel, who retired in October 2009. He has spent more than 20 years working for TLM, most recently as Deputy Director (Medical) for TLM India.
