The Deutsche Lepra- und Tuberkulosehilfe, a member of the ILEP Federation, together with Doctors Without Borders and the BUKO Pharma-Kampagne, have set up the Memento Prize for Neglected Diseases. The first recipients were recently announced. German politicians Karin Roth (SPD) and Anette Hübinger (CDU, MdB) were singled out for their engagement in more public calls for research. Two of the awardees, Dr Gisela Bretzel and Dr Marcus Beissner of the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich, were recognised for their research into leprosy and Buruli ulcer.
