The ILEP Technical Commission, ITC, is the technical advisory body of the Federation, which provides advice to ILEP Members at their request or proactively.

The current ITC was appointed by the ILEP Board in September 2007 for a four-year mandate. It is composed of eight international leprosy experts. Each member has expertise in a field, or fields, from one or more of the following clusters:

  • Cluster A

Public health, epidemiology, leprosy control and programme management

  • Cluster B

Clinical aspects, treatment, prevention of disability (POD), research

  • Cluster C

Rehabilitation (physical, psycho-social, socio-economic), social aspects, development

  • Cluster D

Education, training and teaching materials, information, education and communication (IEC)

Another key role of the Commission is to work closely with the World Health Organization, in particular to ensure that best practices are adopted in implementing the current Global Leprosy Strategy. The WHO Global Leprosy Programme has a standing invitation to attend all meetings of the ILEP Technical Commission.
